I find myself amazed that imagery seems to unfold of its own accord.
My method is initially a ‘scatter-gun approach’ in which I apply paint rapidly, gesturally, intuitively. Typically, I perceive forms emerge from this process. These forms ultimately suggest ideas or initial titles which work as hubs around which I advance those shapes and forms.
Often, my work incorporates images extracted from nature: animals, trees, bodies of water; caught up in odd dramas or interactions with one another. The occurrences of these forms, and my way of presenting them, seem deeply rooted in my subconscious as they tend to always appear as a byproduct of my process.
